The Via Francigena presents itself today as the backbone of a cultural, religious, and even tourist tale.
On the territory of Lucca some traditional events, other current ones, are closely linked to the Franciscan path and during the year it is possible to meet in the middle of festivals and historical re-enactments of the pilgrim's passage. Knowing all aspects of the Francigena: from the medial re-enactments that report in times when the figure of the pilgrim was a constant of the stories and of the quotisiano to the culture that always accompanies these great European paths, to the contemporenaità. The new pilgrims meet in non-competitive festivals and "marathons", as in the spirit of the journey, to share experiences and landscapes.

On April 27th, Lucca, celebrates Saint Zita. People remember the miracles of which she was the protagonist, in which the pilgrims are often present, as the famous episode of the bread changed into flowers, the pilgrim quenched by the water changed into wine at the source of the Fatinelli house. In these days, in homage to the saint and the miracle of flowers, the square in front of the church of San Frediano becomes a garden and so are the nearby squares, the amphitheater, the square of the stonemasons.
