Puccini: Lucca’s greatest symbol that the city has gifted to the world

As the real big pull for Lucca, Puccini is the symbol of the great Italian opera.

In Lucca, you can discover his houses, musical instruments, objects, atmospheres, flavours and colours that were dear to him and that inspired his creativity and his imagination. There are many subjects that promote the discovery of Puccini through routes within the city and in the local area.

The Foundation Giacomo Puccini in Lucca, established in 1972 by the City Council of Lucca and recognized with the 1976 DPR, has worked in several areas over the years. The most important achievement has been the creation of the Giacomo Puccini Birthplace Museum in Corte San Lorenzo. There you can learn (in Italian, English, and Russian) about the Maestro, and about the itineraries within and outside the city (www.puccinimuseum.it). It is also possible to book online (link) or contacting Itinera on +39.0583.583150.

Postcards on Puccini

Among the places related to Puccini's life and music, is the municipal Teatro del Giglio in Lucca. Built in the 17th century, it is one of the oldest public theatres in Italy. The Theatre enjoyed its maximum splendour in the nineteenth century and Puccini himself personally oversaw the staging of some of his works.

Moreover, every summer a series of concerts dedicated to the music of Puccini, sponsored by the Puccini Museum and the Puccini Foundation is staged at the theatre. These are open-air concerts in the charming Piazza Cittadella, under the bronze statue dedicated to the Maestro, a short walk from his birthplace.

The concerts are held every first Thursday of July, August and September.
