The pop culture season

is Lucca Comics & Games, a great and famous happening that attracts hundreds of thousands of people at each edition; but there is also February with the ‘twinning’ in the name of merriment and costumes with the Viareggio Carnival, and in August Lucca Historiae Fest, history as you have never seen it, and in September a film festival with great international guests and a unique formula that transforms the entire historic city centre into a large performance set unique in the world; 

 

 

it is your gourmet season

and it is called Lucca Olive Oil You, the international festival of extra virgin olive oil in collaboration with the prestigious Penn State University of Pennsylvania and, in March in the squares of the historic centre, Lucca Gustosa, amidst the fragrances of typical products and cooking shows by avant-garde chefs.

 

 

the musical season par excellence,

be it classical or rock, is Lucca Classica Musica, in April, when it is most pleasant to discover the city hosting small and large concerts in canonical and singular venues, in squares and courtyards, and then to the calendar of great summer concerts with the most legendary rock stars of Lucca Summer Festival and to throw oneself into the fiery August of Lucca Jazz Donna.

 

 

if you chase the season of sporting events 

you will soon reach the Absolute National Fencing Team or the City of Lucca Cup whizzing along the city walls.

 

 

if you are looking for the season for green thumbs

your season in Lucca is Verdemura in April and Murabilia in September. You can find exotic and re-flowering plants, garden furniture, balcony and kitchen ideas.
You can get to know the Botanical Garden of Lucca at these two particularly lively times, or at a more demanding but equally exciting Pianeta Terra Festival dedicated to the environment and our common home.

 

 

The initiatives linked to the world of ‘our’ Giacomo Puccini, however,

continue throughout the year, well beyond the centenary of his death celebrated in 2024.
The Puccini season continues until March with the exhibition ‘Giacomo Puccini Manifesto’, which recounts the history of Italy with intriguing and unusual insights through more than one hundred advertising posters of the period in which Puccini lived between art deco and the avant-garde, to resume in the autumn with Puccini Days, a month-long musical and theatrical tribute at the Giglio/Giacomo Puccini theatre in Lucca.

In the spaces of the former Cavallerizza an exhibition of over one hundred original posters dedicated to the works of Giacomo Puccini in a parallelism with the history of Italy.
 
1 and 2 February | Lucca olive oil you 
A festival dedicated to extra virgin olive oil, Italian excellence, two days of in-depth discussion between producers and experts from the world of olive oil. 

8 / 23 February | Lucca in Maschera
The Carnival you don't expect: parades, music, parties for families and children colour the Walls and squares of the historic centre. And for the first time, a allegorical float made for Lucca by master carriage-makers from Viareggio. 
 
6, 7, 8, 9 March | Back to the style
In the heart of Lucca, the national street dance event of the year with choreographies, choreographic contests, and the unfailing battle between dancers. 

13 / 16 March | National absolute fencing trials
Young talents from all over Italy compete on the piste between women's and men's sabres and foils.
 
15, 16 March | Lucca Gustosa
A long weekend dedicated to taste and typical local products where flavours intertwine with art and crafts in the city's iconic locations.
 
22, 23 March | Lucca Collezionando
The spring vintage-pop festival dedicated to comics and slow entertainment, board games and retro games in the Polo Fiere spaces. 

4, 5, 6 April | Verdemura
16th edition of the spring market exhibition of gardening and outdoor living. Over 200 exhibitors, flowers and plants from every corner of the world, and workshops to develop the green thumb. 
 
23 / 27 April | Lucca Classica
For over ten years, a festival of people, words and a lot of classical music (and more), including big names and new talents, which invades the historic centre of the city of Puccini, Boccherini and Catalani with its notes. 
 
9, 10, 11 May | Lucca Dance Meeting
A mosaic of events from the world of dance, open-air and theatre performances, dancers, professionals and amateurs immersed in the spaces of the city.
 
29, 30, 31 May / 1 June | Lucca Fashion Week(end)
Four days of original events and proposals entirely dedicated to fashion and local and national craftsmanship in evocative locations in the city. 
 
8 June | International Meeting ‘City of Lucca’
A highly attractive athletics appointment with the best Italian and international talents at the CONI ‘Moreno Martini’ field.

Since 1998 a top-level programme for one of the most important and long-running Italian rock and pop music festivals, in a unique and evocative setting. 
 
2, 3 August | ‘City of Lucca’ Cup
One of the longest-running and best-loved rallies on the Italian scene celebrates its 60th anniversary, with the start and finish line at the scenic city walls of Lucca.

10 August | ...e lucevan le stelle 
Music and stars, inspired by Giacomo Puccini and others, the city's majestic Walls become a stage for the most romantic night of the year.

For over 20 years the female jazz festival, the most beautiful voices, the best musicians, for a unique event.
