La città

Christmas in Lucca is the magical atmosphere of the lights that illuminate the winter.
Lights from the shop windows in the historic center, adorned with traditional decorations of fir branches and colored balls, and bright decorations in the streets and squares give a charming look to the austere historic buildings, creating a Christmassy atmosphere.
There will be star trails illuminating the streets of the historic center and great surprises in the squares where you can enter large gift packages, Christmas tree baubles, and take the perfect souvenir photo of your stay in Lucca in winter 2026.

Traditional

Christmas in Lucca is the tradition of nativity scenes, Classic, contemporary, unusual, and traditional, carefully and passionately crafted in unique locations, especially with figurines from the workshops of the nearby Serchio Valley. Once considered Arte Povera, these figurines are now a hallmark of Christmas with family or friends, and can also be found in the city that welcomes you for the end-of-year festivities. Stop by and choose your favorite—a little angel, a shepherd, or a washerwoman—to take home and add to your nativity scene.
Set up in churches and historic buildings, but also on the Walls of Lucca and in the hilltop villages where the Christmas atmosphere is more domestic and intimate.

The Tradition is the Christmas trees around which to gather to exchange a promise, a gift, a message.
There will be contemporary Christmas trees by Lucca artists, a large illuminated tree, and a special Christmas forest in Piazza San Michele... but we don't want to spoil the surprise!

A tradition that cannot be missed in the city of Giacomo Puccini, Luigi Boccherini, Alfredo Catalani, Xaverio Geminiani and many other composers and musicians of all ages, are the Greeting Concerts.
These are the concerts that the Associations, Artists, and the City Theatre offer to everyone to celebrate the holidays, in museums, squares, churches, cloisters, and wherever there is space for art.
