Lucca Summer nights
A hot summer to spend in the cool hills or walking in the shadow on the walls, and in the evening ... a lot of culture! There are many occasions to take advantage of the cooler hours and get to know Lucca and its museums in a different way during summertime.
At the Via Francigena Entry Point, on July 5 at 9:00 pm, in occasion of the Archaeology nights, a night walk to discover one of the most famous monuments of the town and one of the most appreciated spots by the locals: the Renaissance Walls, their history and secrets. From the fourteenth-century walls, to the towers that strengthened defense in the sixteenth century, the curtains, ramparts, gates and the walls' underground to discover how the largest war machine of Lucca was organized.
On Saturday 6th of July at 10:00 pm a special guided tour of the Museum of Madness to discover the works of art of the current exhibition in some days exceptionally open from 10:00 am until midnight. For those who want to learn more about the history of the town, the splendor of Lucca in the past and its history, on Thursday 11 and Saturday 13 July the National Museums of Villa Guinigi and Palazzo Mansi will be open also in the evening from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm. as well as in its usual opening hours. The gothic style villa Guinigi was the home of Paolo Guinigi, lord of Lucca from 1400 to 1430, and its rooms house manufacts and works of art full of local history. The Baroque atmosphere of Palazzo Mansi, a typical noble residence in Lucca where most of the original furnishings have been conserved, celebrate the glories of local merchant aristocracy that became famous in Europe for the trade of precious silk.
Enjoy the typical summer atmosphere also in the Botanical Garden of Lucca: on Friday 12th of July at 9:15 pm in a guided tour ending at the first concert of the music festival Il canto degli alberi with the scent of lime trees, the great monumental cedar and the blooms. The festival proceeds with concerts every Thursday until September. On July 21 a special concert will celebrate the anniversary of the moon landing.
On Saturday 13th of July the Barsanti and Matteucci Museum located in the Antica Loggetta dei Guinigi in Lucca, offers a long opening with reduced tickets from 8.00 pm to 11.00 pm dedicated to curious visitors in particular. Scale reproductions of four models of compressed air engines designed by the two scientists from Lucca are the highlights of the exhibition dedicated to the works and life of the two inventors of the revolutionary internal combustion engine
On Sunday July 14 at 9:00 pm at the medieval basilica of S. Reparata a guided visit in monumental and archeological museum complex of Lucca will range from the mosaic floor of the Roman and Christian period to the elegant architecture of the medieval basilica, the geometric and vegetal motifs of the late antique repertoire to the mythological figures in Romanesque style. Extraordinary openings from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm also at the Lu.C.C.A. contemporary art museum with guided tours at the Fortunato Depero exhibition "From the futurist dream to advertising" with theatre and music performances, wine and food tours to combine art, fun and socializing in perfect futurist style. In the museum food and wine tastings by FuturApe, live music on the terrace of BalcoNote, theatre and music performances by ForDepero (Reservations are recommended at tel.0039 0583 492180).
The "Futurist nights" will be held every Thursday in July and August (except Ferragosto on August 15) and will end with the Notte Bianca - Sleepless night in Lucca, on Saturday 24 August, which will guide visitors into the third millennium.
Every thursday in the month of July unmissable shopping night for addicts in the streets of the old town center in traditional small shops and the big stores of famous brands, open until midnight. Everyone is invited to make good deals for sale, or just do window shopping strolling through the sreets.
