The exhibition of the Fondazione Ragghianti, dedicated to the excellent Venetian painter Bernardo Bellotto (1722-1780), Canaletto's nephew, is both a major exhibition and a study exhibition.
A unique opportunity to admire some precious and rare works never seen together, including the most important painting in history on the subject of the city of Lucca, a masterpiece of Bellotto, and five of his drawings, also on a Lucca subject, lent extraordinarily by the British Library in London, formerly owned by King George III of England and then George IV.

The focus of this exhibition is on the nucleus of views of Lucca, with the painting depicting Piazza San Martino from the York City Art Gallery and the five drawings of different places around the cathedral and the church of Santa Maria Forisportam exceptionally granted to the British Library. This group of works, never exhibited together - the drawings, glued into an album of the early nineteenth century already owned by King George III of England, and then George IV, will be detached for the first time - provides an extraordinary documentation of the city of Lucca in the eighteenth century.
Alongside the works on subjects from Lucca, the exhibition also presents some of the known views of Florence created by Bellotto during and following his visit to Tuscany, as well as magnificent paintings by Luca Carlevarijs, another vedutista among the first Venetian painters collected by the noble merchant Stefano Conti (1654-1739), Giuseppe Zocchi, and some anonymous but talented artists who, in Lucca, made copies of the exceptional view of Piazza San Martino made by Bellotto.

The exhibition was designed by Daniela Ferretti.
Catalogue edited by Bożena Anna Kowalczyk, with new and unpublished historical and archival research carried out for this exhibition.

The exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday at 10:00 / 19:00. Closed on Mondays.
