A CELEBRATION IN THE SQUARE FOR CARNEVALFRATTA
Jugglers, soap bubbles, music and art: the much awaited return of Carnevalfratta, the historic carnival of Lucca, on Sunday, February 18, in piazza San Francesco (St. Francis square).
In St.Francis square, from 3.00 p.m. and until after supper, the Circus and the Moon puppet theater will arrive: a journey into the realm of fantasy that will come to life thanks to the tales of magical puppets and marionettes. If you want to marvel and get amazed, turn to Mastro Bolla's Big Soap Bubble Party: a lot of big effects, fire, giant flying blue bubbles that will bounce around the square involving young and old. More juggling and street art, thanks to the stilt-walkers of Chicchi d'Uva (Grapes), and lots of fun with the games of yesteryear, which Association Libertas will bring to the square, thanks to the involvement of Simonetta Simonetti and Marco Tuccori: they will revive ancient games, such as lo sculaccione (the spanking), bandiera (the flag), un due tre stella (one, two, three, star), passi da animali (animal steps), i quattro cantoni (the four cantons) and il gioco del mondo (the game of the world).
Also, music with Sciacchetrà Street Band, that will flood St. Francis Square with its passionate rhythm, and with the Organic Groove, a musical formation composed of Luca Giovacchini, Paolo Peewee Durante and Matteo Sodini, who will accompany the event from aperitif to after dinner.
Completing the program, a traveling exhibition of vintage photos chronicling the carnival and the neighborhood, i frati fritti (the fried friars, a culinary delicay) and an appetizer-dinner designed by the Osti of St. Francis Square, co-organizers of the event together with the St. Francis Popular Committee and the cultural and social promotion association Catecholamina Garage.
A veritable square feast, carried out thanks to the patronage of the City of Lucca and the support - and contribution - of the Chamber of Commerce of North/West Tuscany and Confcommercio of Lucca.
