A cross-section of the world of female photography is the subject of the exhibition "Lo sguardo di Medusa nell'attesa di Perseo" ("The gaze of Medusa awaiting Perseus") which brings together the works of three artists from the Lucca area: Sarah Binotto, Daniela Lazzareschi and Valentina Ramacciotti, who have chosen photography as a means of expression and art.

The title of the exhibition, curated by Marella Pomponio and Annalisa Bugliani, alludes to beauty (the one that sentenced Medusa to be condemned by Athena, but also to the subject of photography) and to her desperate search. The attempt to seize the moment, to deliver it to memory, removing it from the inexorable flow of time. The petrified gaze of Medusa, before Perseus's blade drops mercilessly, alludes to the photographer's work, which, "through the mirror" (as Perseus does to avoid Medusa's gaze) frames the existing to select and remove the elements that give life to one's vision.

Three artists, three different technical and poetic approaches. In common the use of the photographic medium as a tool that investigates one's identity and feeling, and at the same time outlines a personal vision of the world and initiates a reflection on the current historical-cultural conjuncture, dominated by the pervasively diffused image and by the continuous and constant connection.

An inexhaustible search for beauty understood in the "Montaliano" sense, of the little things that risk escaping the white-collar circadian rhythm, in nature and in the interstitial folds of existence that does not need the human figure, is the one conducted by Daniela Lazzareschi.

The genius loci, the memory, individual or collective, that settles and innervates the landscape - natural or shaped by the work of man - is the subject of the photographic work done by Sarah Binotto.

The landscape and the existing, in their precariousness and in the various biological, symbolic, ecological and ethical declinations, are for Valentina Ramacciotti the theater in which to narrate her dystopian stories. For her, the camera and the camera become a tool for further narrations (the artist is also a writer) to tell unimaginable imaginary stories, but plausible and hypothesize civilizations and future worlds.
