LUCCHESE120 | 1910-1920: HERE COMES THE LUCCHESE

Virtus and Spes Livorno, Pisa, Prato, Itala and Libertas Firenze, Viareggio: the matches in which the “RossoNeri” are engaged cannot but recall the parochalism, which has been going on in these parts for centuries and continues to find favour even today.

The team competes in the Promotion championship, but matches are often skipped because guests are unable, because og the makeshift transport, to arrive from nearby towns.

We at the reallydawn of football: no business, just passion. The first championship to bring some satisfaction is that of 1914-1915, when the “RossoNeri” finishes at second place behind Pisa in the First Category championship.
Then football goes dramatically into the attic: the roar of the cannons of the Great War will interrupt all tournaments, many of the players will be called to arms to victoriously bring to an end to the Risorgimento enterprise and give back to Italy its northern and eastern lands.

Lucca FBC is no exception and activity is suspended.

Once the war is won, the ball starts rolling again, first and foremost thanks to Enrico Bonino who, having returned from the trenches, gave his soul, despite the injuries sustained that would cause his death shortly afterwards, to get football going again.

The pub Fanciulla del West in Via Mordini hosts the re-foundation, but there is an important change in the name: from now on the "RossoNeri" will be called Unione Sportiva Lucchese.

They started again in the Promotion tournament and in 1920 the formation will be the protagonist of a real popular uproar in the Viareggio derby during which a linesman was killed.
All hell broke loose in the seaside town and it would take several days and two thousand soldiers sent in urgently to quell the revolt.
Once the championship was over, Lucchese played and won the Cup organised by the Tuscan Regional Committee. It was the first trophy in its still young history.
