The beauty of nature and art

Surrounded by hills cultivated with vines and olive trees, the plain of Lucca is a peaceful corner of the most beloved Tuscany. The one rich in art and nature, where one can easily move around on foot or by bicycle to discover small and large treasures.

The historic centre of Lucca is but the ideal starting point for a story that unravels over the hills and in the plain where one discovers, right in the middle of the countryside, one of the largest archaeological parks in Italy, where the monumental villas on the hillsides are one with the agricultural landscape of terraced olive groves and vineyards; the small medieval parish churches welcome walkers along one of Europe's historic paths; the natural forests hide gardens of rare species of plants from all over the world that have become symbols for so long.

It is from these landscapes that the products for our tables are born:

wine and oil, mainly, the heritage of Tuscan and Italian gastronomy, but testimonials of the land whose unmistakable imprint they bear in the infinite shades of colour and perfume that one never ceases to appreciate. As changeable and varied as are the landscapes and territories, each with its own small great diversity.

These are the main ‘condiments’ of a cuisine of tradition and innovation whose ingredients are often the heritage of local knowledge: wild herbs, fruits and waters from the best ‘secret’ springs that go to make up tasty, versatile and extremely seasonal dishes such as the numerous varieties of soups, a Tuscan tradition of excellence and well accompanied, according to a centuries-old tradition, by products from the nearby Tyrrhenian coast and mountains.

The plain of Lucca is a harmonious balance, a continuous dialogue between city and countryside, a story in which nature and culture intertwine and delicately and carefully design one of the most loved and admired landscapes in the world.

Art and culture are the fruit of a millennial history in which there has been no lack of noble and aristocratic figures, skilful artists and capable merchants, stubborn scientists and irreducible dreamers who have left us custodians of a heritage of great culture that can sometimes be found in tiny museums and in the most unexpected places. Here, craftsmanship has always supported Art, a subtle weave of know-how that still characterises local activities, whether small or large.

If in the museums of the city and the villages the history of these territories is told, in the wetlands of the countryside, in the woods of the hills, along the river and the canals that cross the plain, accessible by a dense network of convenient paths, traces remain of the most ancient and natural past of these places and precious reserves of biodiversity are preserved.
