THE BEFANA DESCENDS UPON LUCCA

The Befana passes through the historic center of Lucca...

from 2:30 p.m. , in San Francesco square, the traditional Feast of the Befana which has been animating the historic center for more than 30 years, will take place: the People's Committee of San Francesco square, thanks to the collaboration of Lucca Fire Department and Lucca Green Cross, will organize it again for 2024.

The Befana will descend from the sky to distribute stockings to the children who will be present and it will be possible to eat sweets and participate in the lottery draw in the square.

More stockings and toys will also be delivered to the young patients in the pediatrics ward of San Luca Hospital (St. Luke).

at 5 p.m. , the vocal group Baluardo of Lucca will depart with the Befana cart from the Portone de' Borghi in Fillungo street.
For the 35th time the dear little old lady, always ready to distribute candies and sweets to the little ones, will thus be celebrated.

During the route the "befanate" will be presented: over the years they have enriched the repertoire of Lucca's choir, which to date has as many as 33 befanate available for everyone and always free of charge.

At 6:30 p.m. in San Michele square (St. Michael), the befanata that has won this year's 30th Cesarin' der Viviani Award, the prize for the best befanata, will be proclaimed.

6:00 p.m. The Befana,  accompanied by the Procession of musicians, will deliver gifts to children from the villages of Mastiano, Gugliano and Aquilea.

6:30 pm The Befana will visit the children of the village of Sant'Angelo, singing songs accompanied by guitars and accordions.

on January 6th

6 p.m. Aquilea's Befana descends upon Lucca, accompanied by the Procession of musicians, to sing the befanate in the park of Villa Bottini.
