Lucca Comics & Games is the right occasion for visitors to discover with particular exhibtions every year the interesting job of artists, creative people, of cartoon making, writing, animation, digital art, games and videogames.

As many as 7 monographic exhibitions have been inaugurated on Saturday 12 October at Palazzo Ducale:
- Suehiro Maruo (master of Japanese comics ranging between horror and erotism);
- Emil Ferris awarded with the Gran Guinigi 2018 for the best graphic novel, that sold more than 70,000 copies only in the US;
- Barbara Baldi, the Italian author of the poster of this festival edition, an established colorist and illustrator, with two graphic novels of international success;
- Alessandro Bilotta, award-winning scriptwriter author of numerous cult series;
- Armand Baltazar, senior art director for DreamWorks, Disney and Pixar.

From October 30 to November 3, at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni of the Banca del Monte Foundation in Lucca (in Piazza San Martino), the exhibition “Becoming Human: Be a Hero. Donatori: straordinariamente umani, semplicemente eroi” is dedicated to national and international social communication campaigns for the promotion of  donations having characters of comic books and superheroes as subjects and testimonials. The event is part of the national campaign for organ and tissue donation and transplantation “Diamo il meglio di noi”, promoted by the Ministry of Health and the National Transplant Center, in collaboration with associations in the sector. The exhibition is the result of the collaboration between the CNT, Lucca Crea and Ristogest, from this year partner of “Diamo il meglio di noi”.
“Le origini del Manga - Da Hokusai ai Manga moderni”, an incredible exhibition experience, conceived and curated by the director of the Oriental Art Museum Mazzocchi, Paolo Linetti, with the involvement of some of the most accredited experts in the field, to analyze the relation of the tradition of Japanese illustration of the seventeenth century with the comic strips Manga genre of the twenty-first century, through a selection of about 200 works, including the famous "Wave" of Hokusai, who 2 years ago attracted thousands of visitors to the British Museum.

From October 26th to November 3rd
“Paperino siamo noi” ("We are Donald Duck"), the Mercato del Carmine, an ancient historic building in the heart of Lucca, will be transformed into the universe of the famous character of Walt Disney and his superhero - alter ego "Paperinik", which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, not only thanks to unpublished works, drawings and comics, but also thanks to new technologies. More than an exhibition, a real interactive journey to discover one of the most famous Disney characters in the world. The exhibition curated by Gianni Bono, the historian of Italian comics, will be more than just an exhibition.
