THE SHAMANS IN LUCCA IN MASCHERA 24

THE PROTAGONISTS OF LUCCA IN MASCHERA 24

A city tour among the great masks and fantastic characters that appear in Lucca's streets and squares. Here come the great papier-mâché works of Viareggio's master carristi (float-makers) that will take center stage in the city throughout the month.

Two works signed by master carrista Luca Bertozzi: in Napoleone square The Rolling Stones come back to Lucca, a large papier-mâché work depicting the legendary band for a tribute to the historic Lucca Summer Festival concert which, in 2017, consecrated the city at the center of the international music scene.
The Caged Tiger roars under the arcades of Palazzo Pretorio, with every intention of becoming a star on social channels.

After opening the grand parade on Sunday, February 4, The Shamans, the papier-mâché work created by master Michele Canova, stopped in Anfiteatro square. The Shamans are mythological figures that disturb people's moods, as they always convey strong emotions. They are mysterious subjects, chosen by master Canova for the Viareggio Carnival of 2023 owing to the imperturbability of their nature and essence, combined, however, with the fundamental function they held in ancient tribes, namely the control of spirits.

A singular presence for the oval square that is, however, accustomed to change. A fascinating and mysterious work, a papier-mâché masterpiece that will preside over one of the two symbolic squares of the city's identity for the entire month of February, an encounter between contemporary art and great monumental history.

Finally, in Piazzale Verdi, the great magic of Pinocchio's fairy tale, the most famous in the world, will be illuminated day and night in the pedestrian space in front of the tourist reception center.
